Students take part in global LEGO competition
Students used LEGO blocks to build problem-solving robots in a global competition.
Hasmonean High School in Hendon and East Barnet School went head-to-head with pupils from across London in the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s LEGO league regional tournament last weekend.
Each team, made up of nine to 16-year-olds, designed and programmed a LEGO robot and used it to solve problems and complete tasks.
Teams were judged on their ability to build and programme the robots, their presentation and research skills and how well they cooperated with each other and their competitors.
Hasmonean’s science teacher, Anthony Christie, said: “It’s a great way to encourage pupils to learn the key skills needed for engineering.
“The boys were very focused on what they were doing throughout and worked well together. They came 16th out of 22, and I thought they’d be disheartened – but they can’t wait for next year.”
The school is appealing for people to send-in any of their unwanted LEGO Technic it can use for future events.
