A young fundraiser has been recognised for his dedication collecting money for a Harrow charity.

Ammaar Hussein was given the award by Harrow United Deaf Club (HUDC) last week for raising almost £1,000 by himself.

The 15-year-old said: “I wanted to do something to support Harrow United Deaf Club.

“I came up with the idea to do a sponsored walk to raise money for HUDC. I got my friends involved and asked everyone I know to sponsor me.”

His other fundraising exploits include several cake sales at his school and he plans to do more in the future.

Club president Asif Iqbal said: “I have known Ammaar for the last 18 months since he first came to HUDC to showcase his work as part of the group’s partnership with Hatch End School’s deaf resources base.

“We wanted to encourage young deaf children and young adults to access to our deaf club and to make use of the positive deaf role models.

“I applaud him for all his support and he is a positive role model for many people to follow.

“He reminded me of when I was at his age, doing similar activities and I encourage him to continue thriving.”
