200 people evacuated from train as it catches fire near Chislehurst Station
TWO hundred people had to evacuate a train near Chislehurst Station after it caught fire last night (December 12).
Emergency services boarded the train at the station just after 7.30pm and helped Southeastern staff get all the passengers off safely.
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman says the fire was a small one underneath the train and it was out by the time the crews got there.
Ambulance staff were called to the scene but did not treat any patients.
It is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem and some people on the train tweeted there about the carriages filling up with smoke.
One passenger, Sarah Taylor, tweeted Southeastern to say “I was on the 1848 Orpington train which caught fire at Chislehurst this evening. What compensation are you giving us?”
And after receiving a reply from Southeastern nine hours later about how to claim compensation she tweeted back to say: “This is not just about delay what about passenger safety the train had a fire and the carriages were engaged with smoke.
“The fire brigade & emergency services had to get us off the train. A very scary experience.”
