Gang member to be sentenced over armed robbery at The King Solomon Hotel in Golders Green

This Is Local London: Russell Aljaf Russell Aljaf

The final member of a gang who carried out an armed robbery at a hotel in Golders Green as part of a theft spree across the capital will be sentenced today.

Russell Aljaf, 20, of Marsham Street, Westminster, was part of the gang who used taxis to travel around London to commit armed robberies at hotels, and against minicab drivers and members of the public.

On Monday, March 25 the gang booked a minicab from Aljaf's home address before driving to Inverness Place, W2, where they robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint. They then travelled to Golders Green where three of them entered The King Solomon Hotel armed with a handgun.

They threatened the hotel staff and stole cash. Their taxi driver was unaware of what they were doing until he was contacted by police after his registration plate was taken by a member of the public.

On Friday, March 29, Aljaf and his fellow gang members took another cab to The Kings Hotel in Kings Cross where they threatened the lone receptionist with a gun and stole £300.

The group then directed the cab driver to Igar Hote in Salusbury Road, Kilburn, where they entered with a gun and stole a small amount of money.

They also robbed another minicab driver at gunpoint that night, and robbed two women in Fulham, taking one woman's home address from her driving licence before going to her house and burgling it.

Aljaf will be sentenced at Harrow Crown Court this afternoon. He changed his plea four days into his trial and admitted conspiracy to rob, burglary and possession of an imitation firearm.

He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of an imitation firearm for the purposes of crime, related to an offence in February 2013.
