A jealous husband who admitted killing his wife has says he did so because she was having an affair - and his barrister accused the alleged lover of lying in court.

Minta Adiddo, 38, stabbed his wife, Akua Agyeman, 29 times and then ran her over outside their house in Rigby Place, Enfield Island Village at around midnight on November 6, 2012.

Mr Adiddo pleaded guilty to manslaughter and not guilty to murder, claiming his wife was having an affair with their neighbour Oledapo Etti-Williams.

Summing up at Mr Adiddo's trial this week, his barrister QC Jonathan Higgs cast doubt on the evidence of Mr Etti-Williams.

Mr Adiddo claims that he lost control when Mr Etti-Williams pointed a gun at his head and insulted him.

Citing evidence heard earlier in which the court accepted the two were having an affair, Mr Higgs said: “Mr Etti-Williams was lying under oath; he denied that he was having a relationship with Ms Agyeman and that is an accepted lie by the Crown.”

The neighbour claims he only exchanged text messages which were sometimes flirtatious with Agyeman three or four times a day.

Mr Higgs said that to call the texts simply flirtatious was an “understatement.”

Phone records show that on some days, more than 80 messages were exchanged.

Etti-Williams claims in evidence that he left his home for work at approximately 9.30pm on the night of the attack.

Phone evidence shows that he next used his phone at 10.06pm near a petrol station in Meridian Way, roughly ten minutes from his home in Enfield Island Village.

The defence cites this as a crucial piece of evidence and shows that Mr Etti-Williams was in the flat at that time, threatening Adiddo.

He said: “The cell evidence shows a clear 35-minute gap between phone use which is completely unexplained and inexplicable. It is obvious that Mr Etti-Williams is therefore lying that he did not go into that house that night.”

The prosecution yesterday accused the former Sainsbury’s worker of being “obsessive and jealous” of his wife’s affair.

Mr Higgs asked the jury: “Wouldn’t you be curious? Is wanting to find out who your wife is having an affair with obsessive?”

The judge is likely to give his summing up statement tomorrow with the jury due to be sent out to deliberate early next week.
