A competition has been launched to find the best small independent shops in the borough.

MP Bob Blackman and parliamentary candidate Hannah David have joined together to launch the Harrow Small Shops Award 2013 Competition.

People are being invited to vote for their favourite shops and could be in with the chance to win £100 in time for Christmas.

Mr Blackman said: “Small Business Saturday was a great way to show support for all the excellent local shops and traders which we have throughout Harrow, and this competition is intended as a way to honour the work they do.

“It’s not about one day of supporting local trade, it’s about encouraging people to do so regularly and to support the shops they love.”

Hannah David said: "We want to make sure the small businesses of Harrow get the recognition they deserve for making our area such a great place. This competition gives everyone a chance to recognise their favourite local shop and help them to win.”

Earlier this week the pair welcomed Chancellor George Osborne to Stanmore high street, where he met traders to discuss changes to business rates.
