Santa swaps sleigh for Mercedes for Sam Beare fun run
Mercedes-Benz World is usually filled with supercars, but for one day only it was filled to the brim with Santas.
This year’s Santa fun run in aid of Woking and Sam Beare Hospices began at the Weybridge attraction on Sunday, December 8, before participants walked, ran or jogged the 2.5km or 5km route.
Among the other festivities on offer, Herd of Sax performed a number of favourite Christmas tunes and youngsters met Santa by his red Mercedes sports car.
After a warm up to get the Santas ready for their journey, PR guru Max Clifford, hospice patron, set them on their way.
Three generations of the Mepham family from Weybridge said it was a great way to start the festive season.
Sue Spencer, fundraising events manager, said: “This event has bought all ages together in support of our hospices and with over 400 Santas, each year gets bigger and better.
“Thank you to everyone who took part as well as all the volunteers who helped with check-in and supported the runners on the course.”
This year’s fun run helped to raise more than £10,000 on the day for the hospices, with more funds still to be counted through online fundraising and gift aid.
The money raised will support patients and families during the Christmas period.
