A PLUMSTEAD couple who ran Britain’s first sex call centre from a Greenwich flat have been jailed for a total of four years and four months.
The pair lured Polish women to work as escorts to the UK where they were sexually exploited at a string of brothels across London.
Kamil Niewiadomski, aged 31, of Tewson Road, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on December 9 to three years and four months in prison after admitting charges of controlling prostitution for gain and perverting the course of justice.
Ewa Nosal, aged 30, also of Tewson Road, was sentenced to 12 months in prison after admitting controlling prostitution for gain.
The Polish nationals took bookings for the women at a call centre in Haddo Street, Greenwich, with victims encouraged to have unprotected sex with clients for up to £120 per hour.
The brothels were in Tower Hamlets, Old Kent Road, Southwark, Hammersmith and Fulham with victims fined £10 by Niewiadomski if they were late for a booking or a client walked out.
Officers found around £24,000 beside Niewiadomski's bed and within a safe, as well as identity cards and 120 mobiles for bookings, at the Plumstead home which the pair shared with their child and Niewiadomski’s parents.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Officers from the MPS human trafficking unit began investigating the pair after several victims rang the unit's 24-hour helpline.
“Detectives seized around £24,000 in cash found beside Niewiadomski's bed and within a safe hidden in his wardrobe.
“They also recovered almost 50 identity cards for Polish men and women, suggesting that all these had been exploited or worked for the defendants. Police believe the actual number of victims is in excess of this.”
Niewiadomski was charged with perverting the course of justice after he sent letters to victims, while he was in custody, inciting them to withdraw their claims.
The human trafficking unit's 24-hour helpline is open seven days a week and operated by specially-training people waiting to take victims' calls on 0800 783 2589.
