Teen hit by car bringing Sidcup to standstill wants to reassure driver he's ok
A TEENAGER who had a narrow escape after being hit by a car in Sidcup wants to get in touch with the driver.
Jack Salt, 18, holds no ill feeling and would like to reassure the man who hit him head on that he’s back on his feet again.
The Christ the King College: St Mary's student was getting something to eat at Domino’s Pizza in Station Road at around 4.30pm on November 26 when he saw his bus approaching.
Not wanting to miss a ride back to his home in Page Crescent, Slade Green, Jack nipped out of the takeaway and ran across the road towards the bus stop.
The next thing he knew he was lying on his back on the tarmac having been thrown the length of the bus by the impact of a car coming from the direction of Halfway Street at the junction with Hurst Road.
The incident brought traffic in the area to a standstill for around 45 minutes while Jack was seen to by paramedics.
The trainee radiographer told News Shopper: "I didn’t even feel the car hit me.
"I saw a flash like a light and I just assumed I had been hit by a car. When I lifted my head off the floor that’s when the pain came.
"My neck and my head were really hurting and the pain just got worse when the adrenaline wore off."
Paramedics bandaged Jack’s bloodied head at the scene and he was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich where he was treated for cuts to the head, grazes to his legs and chest pains.
After spending time in a wheelchair and on crutches the sporty teenager is now walking again but still suffers pain from a sprained ankle and back spasms.
He remembers a young girl travelling with the driver who hit him being shaken by what happened.
Jack said: "I think the little girl was upset and I just apologised for scaring her.
"If they get into contact I’m happy to talk to them. Whoever’s fault it was it was a freak accident.
"When everyone tells me that I’m unlucky for getting hit I say I’m more lucky that I didn’t get hurt badly."
