A fire at a Twickenham flat saw a lucky escape for one family of four living above.
Firefighters from Twickenham and Heston were called to a fire above commercial property in Heath Road at 9pm on Monday.
The occupant of the flat on fire was out but a family of four living in the flat above had to escape .
Twickenham watch manager Daniel Wareham said: "The crews did well to bring the fire under control.
"There was a lot of damage, about 50 per cent of it fire damage.
"It was the smoke alarm that alerted the family living in the flat above."
Police were called by London Fire Brigade after another resident refused to leave the building, but was ultimately allowed to remain.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "It is being treated as an accidental fire."
