Extra recycling and rubbish disposal sites will be set up in Potters Bar to increase the amount of Christmas waste being recycled this year.

Hertsmere Council is sending tree officers to Oakmere car park on January 4 to shred and festive firs free of charge between 11am and 2pm.

The chippings will be bagged up and used for mulch to be spread in garden beds throughout the borough.

Christmas cards can be recycled at the centre in Furzefield car park, Mutton Lane, any time of the month.

Meanwhile, excess waste can be dropped off at the Household Waste Centre in Cranborne Road, which is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
