Prospective neighbours of a new Chinese school will be able to have their say at a consultation evening in Colindale this week.

People will be able to comment on plans to open Marco Polo Academy in Barnet next September.

The academy was due to open under the Free Schools programme in the Pavilion Way sports fields, but many argued the land should be kept for recreational use.

Barnet Council had approved plans to sell off the fields to Taylor Wimpey and the Marco Polo Academy for housing and the school last month, but has since been forced to reassess its decision by a cross party scrutiny committee.

The consultation event will be held from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, December 11 at The Hyde Churches in Edgware Road, Colindale.

Those behind the school will also give talks from 5.30pm to 7pm.

The school plans to teach a mix of Mandarin and English, and follow curriculums from both the UK and Singapore.

Lessons will also cover cultural activities such as Chinese knitting and dancing.
