A 21-year-old man has been jailed for possessing a sawn-off double barrelled shotgun and shotgun ammunition.

Liam Demeitrou-Crane of Albert Road in Walthamstow was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court yesterday where he was handed a four-and-a-half year sentence.

On November 19 a property in Albert Road was searched by Trident gang crime officers acting on intelligence who found the weapon and around 50 ammunition cartridges.

Demeitrou-Crane was arrested at the address and subsequently charged.

Working as a police dispatcher ages ago, I tore a message off the teletype giving details of an armed robbery in an adjacent county. The weapon used was described as a "SOD OFF SHOTGUN."

There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that if one is looking down the wrong end of the weapon, the message is "SOD OFF."
