People across the borough did their bit to help victims of the typhoon disaster as they raised cash this week.

Geraldine Rabal, a Filipino who works for Richmond based firm Kew Insurance, asked fellow employees to raise funds for those affected as her family lives out there.

She said: “My family is delighted that my colleagues at Kew have generously donated towards assisting the stricken people of the Philippines.”

Roofing company, National Roofing UK, offered to top up Kew’s fund-raising with an extra £100.

The Rotary Club of Kew Gardens did their bit to help when they sent five shelter boxes and three water survival boxes, which will be allocated to the worst affected areas providing water, tents, clothing, blankets and cooking utensils to the victims.

To date, 84 shelter boxes and 34 water survival boxes have been funded by Rotary Clubs in the area at a cost of more than £60,000.

Pupils at Waldegrave School sold ribbons in the colours of the Philippines flag and raised £210, which will be given to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for the Philippines.

Staff at West Middlesex University Hospital, which has about 200 Filipino employees, raised more than £7,000 at a fundraising dinner.
