The head of a primary school at which a teacher was found to have cheated in pupils’ end of year exams says she is extremely disappointed by the findings.

A retiring Year Six teacher at Newton Farm Nursery, Infant and Primary School amended 12 answers on five test papers in end of year SATs exams in May.

An independent investigation carried out at the school found no other teacher had been involved and the school took no further action on the teacher, who has since left.

Headteacher Rekha Bhakoo said of the findings: “We are pleased that the matter has now officially been drawn to a close and the outcomes of the independent investigation are clear and transparent.

“However, the staff, governors and school community are extremely disappointed that our pupils have been denied some of their KS2 SATS results due to the actions of the retired Y6 teacher.

“We will continue to ensure that all our pupils thrive socially, morally and intellectually in a curriculum which meets their individual needs.”
