A 93-year-old woman’s garden was targeted in a chainsaw attack, her son claims.

Jeff Howell, 68, who lives with his mother Kath Howell, says a gang of three people knocked on the door of their Sturge Avenue home over the weekend before savaging several plants in front of her eyes.

He says the gang, which was led by a young girl, left an enormous mess in the garden.

The retired Ministry of Defence worker said he had no idea why the house was targeted and that he had never heard of an incident like this.

Police have been contacted for more information.

The Police will probably arrest Mrs Howell for possession of a pointed stick in a public place.

It could be the case that they were simply over zealous Cub Scouts who saw that her garden was a bit of a wreck and wanted t o help out.
