A parking place where motorists were constantly being ticketed has been marked as a loading bay.

The bay in Falloden Way, Barnet, was not properly signposted and drivers were constantly left confused after receiving the fines.

Transport for London (TfL) has now painted the words ‘loading only’ onto the road, which is on a busy high street outside a row of shops on the A1.

GLA member for Barnet Andrew Dismore was locked in a long running campaign with the transport body to urge them to tackle the problem.

He said: “I just wonder how much extra in parking fines TfL raked in, between me first suggesting this step, and them actually implementing it.

“However, the work has been done now, and hopefully drivers will be more aware of the risk they take if they park here, and can avoid getting ticketed in the future.”

Paul Cowperthwaite, TfL’s Head of Contracted Services, said:“We have listened to our customers and introduced additional signage to make it even clearer to motorists what traffic restrictions are in place at loading bays on our road network.

"We are pleased that the Department for Transport (DfT) granted approval for the new ‘Loading Only’ road markings and we introduced them as soon as the DfT gave its approval.”
