Successful Sutton has launched a new shopper shuttle that will carry people up and down the High Street for free whether they are hunting down Christmas gifts or just getting the everyday essentials.

The Enjoy Sutton Shuttles are buggies that can carry several people and their shopping at a time and will call at a several stops along the town's main shopping area during December and January.

Successful Sutton chief executive Ross Feeney said: "Sutton has a long sloping high street and the hill can discourage shoppers from walking its length. We hope shoppers will enjoy Sutton and make use of the free shuttle service and that it will encourage them to visit all of the High Street.

"The service will initially run throughout December and January to help with Christmas and New Year shopping, when it can be particularly cold and wet, but if the service is popular we will look at something more permanent."

The scheme launched on Monday. One buggy will run from 10am to 4pm on Monday's Tuesdays and Wednesday, from 10am to 6.30pm on Thursday and 10am to 3.30pm on Friday and Saturday while a second buggy will run from 10.30am to 7pm on Thursday, 10.30am to 4.30pm on Fridays and 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday.
