Secondary school pupils dressed as Albert Einstein today to help raise money for charity to enter the borough’s most competitive quiz.

Three teams of Year 9 pupils from Hatch End High School donned white wigs and fake moustaches for the whole day to raise money for Mind in Harrow.

Money will go towards the school's entrance fee to take part in the MasterMind in Harrow competition, run by the charity in partnership with the Harrow Times.

Teacher Abi Fernando, who is co-ordinating the school’s efforts said: “Our contestants have really engaged with this competition and are really excited about the event in February.

“The year group is really backing their MasterMinds and were very keen to purchase cakes at their recent bake sale and our teams are bursting with more fundraising plans.

“We are very proud of our teams not only for taking part in this competition but for being so enthusiastic about raising money for such an important charity.”

Tim Fenn, 14, captain of Team Awesome said: “All the fundraising has been really good fun and it’s a great competition to be part off.

“We have already raised half the money and we have lots more ideas how to get the rest - all for a really good cause.”

William Kulaindran, of Team Brilliant, said: “We’re all really enjoying working together for the competition and getting to the fundraising target.

Kiran Halai,13, captain of Team Fantastic, said: “I think the whole competition is a great way for us learn and have fun at the same time.

“Once we finish the fundraising we will start practising for the competition. My main plan is to watch as many TV quiz shows as possible.”

Earlier this week Marilyn Norman and Mark Gilham from Mind in Harrow spoke to the whole year group during assembly about the work the charity does.

The other schools taking part in the contest are North London Collegiate School, Bentley Wood High School, Harrow School, Sacred Heart and John Lyon School.

Each school will enter three teams of four Year 9 pupils to face the quick fire ‘University Challenge’ style quiz next year.
