A woman who fled from war-torn Iran with her family spoke about her experiences at a college award ceremony.

Melody Hossaini delivered an inspirational speech when she presented awards to students at Barnet and Southgate College on Wednesday night.

In 2009, she set up InspireEngage International – which improves young people’s lives through unique skills and development programmes.

Melody appeared on BBC1s The Apprentice in 2011 and after she was fired in week ten, Lord Sugar described as a “woman of exceptional ability”.

Among prize-winners was Modupé Obasola, who performed a live set on the night and received the college's first ever Alumni Ambassador Award.

Modupé studied Music at Barnet and Southgate College in 2001 and she has performed on ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent series, reaching the semi-final.

Modupé said: “I think coming to Barnet and Southgate College really set me up for the music industry as I was given a lot of opportunities to get out there and perform live.”
