COUNCIL chiefs aiming to stimulate the economy are increasing their focus on regeneration at Marlow's industrial park.

Globe Business Park, a combination of different estates, close to the A404 bypass, has significant potential, Cllr Richard Scott, Leader of Wycombe District Council said.

Discussions with business leaders began last year and Cllr Scott has expressed his intention to make strides with the project.

He said he wants to see a lower level of unoccupied premises, saying it stands currently at about 40 per cent.

A Business Improvement District Company, similar to what began in High Wycombe in October 2012, could be created.

The BIDco comprises 654 Wycombe companies which pay a levy based on their size into a pot totalling £1.6m. The levy is collected through business rates.

It manages the day-to-day town centre management - from hanging baskets and deep cleaning the pavements to overseeing the security partnership and laying on a training programme for businesses.

Cllr Scott said: "Marlow is seen as a thriving place but there is quite a big unoccupied rate on certain parts of the industrial park.

"One or two have been refurbished, there are still some older buildings needing tidying up.

"I think a BIDco would be very useful to pool all the different strands interests together to work for the benefit of each other."

Businesses at Globe Park stretch from Station Road to the Marlow bypass roundabout and there is about one million Square feet, comprising about 20 large office buildings and numerous smaller ones.

Cllr Scott said: "There's some smaller businesses which we want to encourage and keep. There's a big mix, there's some international offices there.

He stressed the importance the council is putting on economic regeneration, adding: "We are not complacent about our inward investment at all."
