u/l Nearly all pupils who attend state secondary schools in Surrey are being educated in a good or outstanding environment.

Surrey County Council analysed Ofsted inspection results and found 90.2 per cent of pupils in state secondary education in the county go to a school in the top two categories.

Results for GCSE exams also showed that more than 66 per cent of pupils gained five or more A* to C grades or equivalent, including English and maths, compared with 60 per cent nationally.

The achievement puts the county in the top 15 performing areas in England.

Linda Kemeny, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for children and learning, said: “These figures demonstrate that Surrey continues to have some of the best performing state schools in the country.

“With nearly 11,000 pupils, Surrey is by far the largest authority to be ranked in the top 15 and is further evidence of the high standard of education across the county.

“However, we will continue to do all we can to support the hard work and dedication of teachers, pupils and governors at all our schools as they continue to improve results and unlock the full potential of every pupil.”

In Elmbridge, there are four state secondary schools; Esher Church of England High School, rated good in June 2013, Hinchley Wood School, rated outstanding in September 2011, Heathside School, rated good in October 2013, and Rydens Enterprise School, rated satisfactory in May 2012.
