A FAMILY were celebrating '100 not out' for a Marlow great-grandmother last weekend.

Peggy Milton, who reached 100 years old on Saturday, was excited to find a letter from the Queen came through the letter box.

And like Her Majesty Peggy, a great-grandmother of five, was treated to a double birthday celebration.

Family gathered for a party in Gerrards Cross on Friday for the grandmother-of-three, while a day later a combination of friends, family and neighbours visited her home in Marlow.

Son-in-law Edward Anderson, in his 80s, said: "It all went successfully.

"The family thought it was brilliant, we had a sign saying 100 not out."

The banner was apt, he said because her late husband Sidney had been a big cricket fan and followed Somerset closely. Her late son Michael was also a talented cricketer, playing for Hazlemere Cricket Club, and golfer.

Edward said: "All the neighbours came on Saturday and bought presents, including a garden chair for her to sit in the summer. She really enjoyed it."

As well as the official note from the Queen, a huge bouquet was delivered by Mayor Suzanne Brown. There were lots of other little presents including flowers, sweets and chocolate.

Ann Anderson, Peggy's daughter, said: "I'm amazed she got to that age and she does all her own housework still. "Both days she said a the end of the day I've had a lovely day.

"At one stage she said 'is the Queen coming to see?'.

She was over the moon with the card."

Asked what her secret was to long life, she said: "Good living. She never drank or smoked and looked after herself."

Peggy and family lived in High Wycombe and worked at Warren's grocery at Lane End
