MP calls for support for Northwick Park Hospital
An MP has called for more resources for a hospital following the announcement of plans for the future of health care in North West London will go ahead.
Bob Blackman made the comments following the announcement form Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt that planned changes to healthcare services in North West London should go ahead.
The changes will mean nine hospitals across North West London will be redesigned so only five, including Northwick Park, will provide comprehensive care, including accident and emergency services.
The representative for Harrow East said : “While I welcome the introduction of 24/7 urgent patient care in our region, the A&E department at Northwick Park is under extreme pressure.
“This reconfiguration may make it difficult for the unit to cope with the high volume of emergencies it has to deal with every day.
“It is only right and fair that those hospitals taking on this role, including Northwick Park, receive more support as a result. I want to see resources transferred lock stock and barrel across."
The changes will mean the care for an estimated two million people in North West London will be delivered at five hospitals which are Hillingdon, Northwick Park, West Middlesex, Chelsea & Westminster and St Mary's.
Northwick Park is currently having a new multi-million pound A&E department and urgent care centre built which is due to be completed next year.
