SUCCESSFUL Erith ‘diathlete’ Gavin Griffiths will be going down under for his next challenge.

Endurance runner Mr Griffiths, 22, suffers from type 1 diabetes but previously ran 30 miles in 30 days across the UK to raise awareness about his condition.

But now the London 2012 torchbearer, who lives in Luddlestone Road, will be jetting off to Australia for more than three weeks in November and December.

He will drop in at the International Diabetes Federation’s World Diabetes Congress in Melbourne, before competing in a 5km event at the South Adelaide Road Running Club’s Christmas Caper event.

Among several other commitments, Mr Griffiths complete a 55km route, taking in the sights of the Adelaide Oval before heading towards the coast.

He said: "Living with type 1 diabetes means I always have to be on the ball and live with an added responsibility for my health – but it can never hold me back from fulfilling my dreams in life.

"Nothing can with the right attitude."
