St James' Catholic High School pupils get ready for battle of the bands competition at the Roundhouse
A school band from Colindale is preparing to go head to head with young musicians from across London in a battle of the bands competition tonight.
Next Time Natalie, whose members all attend St James’ Catholic High School in Great Strand, will perform in the Band Slam at Camden rock venue the Roundhouse at 7pm.
Jordan MacPhee-Torres, Stephen Kelly, Jake Marshall and Christopher Kenny will battle it out with rival under 18 year olds to win the 2013 Roundhouse Band Slam title for their school.
The winners will also bag a performance slot at the Roundhouse Rising Festival of emerging music in February, and a professional recording session in the venue’s EMI studio.
Jordan said: “We have experienced playing in small venues but the opportunity to play at the Roundhouse is a whole new ball game."
Each act will be scored on their live performance, song writing skills and originality by a panel of music industry professionals.
Sylvia Harrison, music and performing arts programme coordinator at the Roundhouse, said: “The Band Slam aims to give some of the amazing young acts out there a chance to take their performance skills to the next level and to mobilise young communities to support their home-grown talent.”
Tickets for tonight’s performance cost £3. For more information visit roundhouse.org.uk/bandslam
