A man and a woman have been jailed for operating a brothel and controlling prostitution.

Andrea Tiborne Fazekas-Vigh, 44, and Bela Halasz, 40, of Church Lane, Kingsbury were sentenced at Harrow Crown Court yesterday after earlier pleading guilty.

Fazekas-Vigh was jailed for three years and nine months for controlling prostitution and keeping a brothel for prostitution and Halasz was jailed for two years keeping a brothel.

In February this year a Hungarian woman who had been trafficked to the UK was forced to work in the brothel in Church Lane.

The woman was able to make contact with her daughter in Hungary who had a friend in the UK. She then informed North Yorkshire Police.

Brent police were informed of the situation and a week later made a welfare check at the home where they found the woman.

Detective Sergeant Edward Salter from Wembley Police Station said: "This was a case where Fazekas - Vigh and Halasz ran this business out of pure greed to fund a lifestyle they would not otherwise have had.

“They made a considerable amount of money but exploited vulnerable people. The victim bravely came back to this country to give evidence and they were forced to plead guilty in the face of overwhelming evidence.

“These types of premises also blight the community and affect people who live nearby but I am pleased to say they can be closed.”
