Pledge to make Harrow the next Fairtrade borough
Harrow Council's leader has pledged to make the borough the next in the capital to achieve Fairtrade status.
Harrow Borough Council leader Cllr Susan Hall and Mayor Cllr Nana Asante last week celebrated five years of London being the world’s largest Fairtrade city with representatives from across London.
As a result of the event, Cllr Hall has pledged that Harrow will be the next London borough to achieve Fairtrade status.
She said: “Harrow has proclaimed itself to be a cleaner, safer and fairer borough, and there is nothing fairer than ensuring the world’s food suppliers get a reasonable price for their output.”
The Fairtrade movement aims to raise awareness about the importance of paying farmers in developing countries a fair price for their goods.
