X FACTOR: Bexley's Sam Bailey and Gravesend's Tamera Foster wow judges in third live show
NEWS SHOPPER'S leading ladies Sam Bailey and Tamera Foster brought the glitz and glamour to X Factor’s Hollywood Week.
Both singers effortlessly glided through to the fourth week of live shows tonight.
Gary Barlow praised Sam, who grew up in Eynsford Road, Bexley Village, as "better than Celine Dion", but his critique of Gravesend’s Tamera was harsher than usual.
The Take That star, who last week labelled the 16-year-old a “superstar”, said her rendition of Beyonce’s Listen reminded him of Stars in Their Eyes.
He said: “There was elements of that performance tonight that reminded me of Stars in Their Eyes.”
He added: “You’re not a Beyonce impersonator.
"Please, next week, I want to see you come on the stage as you, not impersonating another artist. But well done tonight.”
The other judges disagreed - Sharon Osborne labelled the North West Kent College music student the “ideal, little, young pop star” and Louis Walsh claimed she “stole the show”.
Mentor Nicole rushed to defend her protege and said: “You know what? She’s 16! It’s a big, brave song and she had the balls to take it on.”
Louis Walsh added: “Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, you come out and you do a Beyonce number. Oh my God - you stole the show.”
Sporting a new longer and blonder hairdo, Tamera belted out the ballad Beyonce’s Listen from 2006 musical Dreamgirls atop a piano.
Despite the mixed reviews, she said: “I feel so good that I got to perform that song, you know, because it’s been one of my favourites for a very long time.
“And to think that I’m performing it on The X Factor stage, it’s such an achievement for me, so I feel amazing.”
The only contestant left in the over-25 category, Sam Bailey received positive comments across the board for her version of Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On from 1997 blockbuster Titanic.
Barlow praised Sam’s version as better than the original, while Nicole called it “majestical”.
He said: “It’s this simple, Sam - a couple of years ago, I went to Las Vegas and I saw Celine Dion. I was in row three screaming.
“You sang that song better than her.”
Nicole added: “You don’t need anything. All we need to do is hear you sing and you know what? You are Great Britain’s Celine Dion, honey.”
Veteran judge Louis Walsh added: “Sam Bailey, that was magical - it was powerful and it was note-perfect.”
Girl band Miss Dynamix left the show after losing the flash vote and performing against 17-year-old Hannah Barrett tonight.
