UPDATE: Friends pay tribute to 'handsome and bright young man' Ahimsan Sahel Maharasingam who died at Petts Wood station
TRIBUTES have been left for a "handsome and bright young man" who died in a suspected suicide at Petts Wood station.
Ahimsan Sahel Maharasingam, who was 23 and from the Orpington area, died at around 11.30am on Saturday (October).
Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene but could not save Mr Maharasingam.
Tributes left on the Petts Wood station footbridge read: “You went away and yet your life was getting started.
"You were a handsome and bright young man.
"You will be missed by everyone who met you and will always be remembered and have a special place in our hearts."
Another added: "May your soul rest in peace.
“Heartfelt condolences to the young man’s family and friends.”
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “BTP officers were called to Petts Wood station on Saturday following a report that a man had been hit by a train.
“Metropolitan Police officers also attended the incident which was reported to BTP at 11.35am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.”
The train involved was the 9.35am Minster to Charing Cross service.
An inquest into the death of Mr Maharasingam was opened and adjourned by South London Coroner Dr Roy Palmer on Tuesday until a later date.
