Car catches fire outside school in Gayton Road, Harrow
This was the dramatic scene as a car burst into flames outside a school.
People travelling on a bus saw the inferno outside Harrow High School, in Gayton Road, this morning as a man tried to put it out with an extinguisher.
The London Fire Brigade were called to the scene at 8.37am to reports of a car alight.
The blaze was brought under control by 8.58am and no injuries have been reported..
A spokeswoman for the school said: “Our staff did a fantastic job and helped control the scene and made sure traffic kept moving. No one at the school was hurt and everyone was kept safe.
“Jon Talton Assistant Head of Year 10 reported a car on fire outside the school. The fire brigade were called.
"Harrow High School staff immediately acted to ensure the safety of all pupils, public and staff by containing traffic problems and keeping people at a safe distance until the Fire Brigade arrived.
“Mr Peter Gore, Site Manager was close by with a fire extinguisher in case the flames were blown out of control.
“We would like to publicly thank all of our staff and young people for their calm actions and response. We are very proud of them all.
“Thanks to all learners and passers-by for their assistance.”
