Nilgun Canver to appear at Wood Green Crown Court charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice
A councillor who was suspended from her party after she was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice is due to appear in court today.
Nilgun Canver, Haringey Borough Council’s former cabinet member for the environment, will enter a plea at Wood Green Crown Court.
In August, Cllr Canver stepped down for her cabinet position and was subsequently suspended from the Labour Party after receiving a court summons.
The St Ann’s ward councillor was replaced by Cllr John Bevan who was formerly the cabinet member for housing.
A council spokesman said the matter was “personal and private” but refused to comment further.
Liberal Democrat councillor Richard Wilson has previously claimed the alleged offence is “very serious”.
