WANTED: Three men who stole £50 from Greenwich pensioner in cash point distraction theft
AN 82-YEAR-OLD man was told by thieves he had dropped a £10 note on the floor – only for them to swipe £50 from him as he picked it up.
The incident happened outside Barclays bank in Vanbrugh Park at around 2pm on September 10 and detectives have now released images of three men they want to speak with.
At the time, the victim was stood at the cash point waiting for his £50 to appear when a man began speaking to him in a foreign accent from behind.
The suspect kept pointing at a £10 note on the floor and implied the pensioner had dropped it and when he picked it up, he noticed his card and the £50 cash had been taken.
Although he was unharmed, the victim saw the suspect walk away with two other men.
Greenwich burglary squad Detective Constable Kevin Ricketts said: "We appeal to anyone who may recognise these men and may be able to help us with our investigation.
"People should remain vigilant when using cash points and if they notice anything suspicious please dial 999 immediately."
Anyone with information should call the Burglary Squad on 020 8284 9449 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
