Ex-oilfield executive to explain impact of fracking as controversy grows
As controversy grows over fracking licences being granted for drilling in Surrey, an expert is set to explain their likely impact.
Ex-oilfield executive Ian Crane, raised in Epsom, will give a talk, entitled Frackered Future, about gas extraction at Christ Church (United Reform) in Epsom Road, Leatherhead, on Thursday.
Mr Crane, who spent two decades in the oil and gas industries as an executive at oilfield services company Schlumberger, will consider whether corporate profits are being put ahead of health, safety and the environment.
Onshore licensing data for the UK, from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), shows licences have been granted to Northdown Energy Limited for the northern parts of Epsom and Ewell.
Event organiser Eleana Needham said: "Fracking is an emotive issue and we hope that the event will be of particular interest to those who are as yet undecided and would like to learn more."
Fracktured Future, Christ Church (United Reform), Epsom Road, Leatherhead, Thursday October 24, 7.30pm, £5. For more information call 01737 352351, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.facebook.com/CHATtalks.
