A NEW unit offering advanced treatment for kidney stones has been opened at Darent Valley Hospital.
The Poplar Unit will offer national standard treatment for the painful ailment including a stone breaking machine and laser and key-hole surgery facilities.
It will also offer biopsies for suspected prostate cancer, ultrasound scans and telescopic bladder examinations while acute kidney failure patients who currently have to go to King’s College hospital in London won’t have to anymore.
The unit is part of the Stone and Kidney Centre which is now a regional hub and one-stop-shop for Urology and Nephrology and will soon have a state-of-the-art operation theatre for dedicated stone surgery.
It was opened by centre director Dr Sri Sriprasad, president of the British Association of Urological Surgeons Adrian Joyce and Dartford MP Gareth Johnson.
Dr Sriprasad said: “With these fantastic state of the art facilities the Stone and Kidney Centre aims to provide comprehensive and excellent care to patients with urological and kidney problems and this will vastly enhance patients’ experience.”
