Inquest continues into death of East Barnet woman after fall at Barnet Hospital
An inquest into the death of an elderly woman who suffered a fall at Barnet Hospital is due to be heard this morning.
Beryl Best, 87, suffered a haematoma - a collection of blood outside the blood vessels - that blocked her airway after falling at the Wellhouse Lane hospital on August 14 last year.
She was placed on the Liverpool Care Pathway and died the next day.
An internal investigation concluded that an appropriate risk assessment for the prevention of falls was not properly carried out when Mrs Best, from East Barnet, was admitted suffering from diarrhoea.
The inquest, at North London Coroner's Court, in Wood Lane, High Barnet, is expected to last into this afternoon.
