Four-legged friends raise cash for charity
Pooches and their owners braved the rain and headed out for walkies to raise money for Woking and Sam Beare Hospices.
Now in its second year, the Paws in the Park event raised £2,500 for the hospices, with 45 four-legged animals and their best friends walking the mile-long route on Sunday, October 13.
After the walk in the great British weather, humans enjoyed hot drinks and refreshments, while dogs had a go on a special doggie tombola and were thrust into the spotlight to have their photographs taken for the best in show competition.
Ash, a three-year-old lurcher, was the winner of the best in show and had taken part in the walk with owner Sam O’Leary and her children Harriet and Campbell.
The family were delighted to have won and raised £250 for the hospices.
Wendy Denty, event organiser and community fundraiser at Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the hospices. From the time the walkers set off, it was torrential rain, but I must say that hospice volunteers and dog owners are some of the most resilient people I have ever met.”
