Sutton businessman found guilty of using dead person's parking permit
A businessman who used a dead person's parking permit to avoid paying for tickets has been prosecuted.
Barry McDermott, who trades as TCS Car Servicing in Bushey Lane, Sutton, was found guilty of fraud at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, October 8.
McDermott used a dead person's permit in order to park customers' cars in Bushey Lane and avoid the £8.50 daily rate.
He was given a six month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
Councillor Jill Whitehead, chairwoman of Sutton Council's environment and neighbourhood committee, said: "Parking permits are issued for the sole use a named individual and a certainly not to be used when a person passes away. If we find people are abusing this system then we will use the full force of the law to resolve the issue."
