Police dispersal zone in Wealdstone extended
A dispersal zone to prevent anti-social behaviour in a busy high street has been extended.
Harrow Borough Council and Harrow police have agreed the extension of the Wealdstone dispersal zone, which will operate until April 2014.
The order, introduced earlier this year, was brought in after concerns from the community over a rise in anti-social behaviour, with groups of young people gathering in and around the High Htreet.
Superintendent Ben Honey said: “The dispersal zone has proved to be an effective tool in reducing anti-social behaviour on the borough and we welcome the additional police powers it gives us in this particular area.
“Its extension is clearly what local businesses and residents want. We continue to work closely with the council to tackle the problems arising in this part of the borough.”
Leader of Harrow Council Councillor Susan Hall also welcomed the extension of the dispersal zone and says it shows the police and the council were listening to people’s concerns.
The order will cover Harrow and Wealdstone Station, Harrow Leisure Centre and Byron Recreational Ground, all the way up the High Street to Harrow Weald Bus Garage.
