Schools ready for MasterMind in Harrow competition
Pupils from schools across the borough have been set a fundraising challenge in order to take part in a quiz to find Harrow's cleverest school.
Six schools will be pitting their pupils against each other in the MasterMind competition, run by mental health charity Mind in Harrow in partnership with the Harrow Times.
Each school will enter three teams of four Year 9 pupils to face the quick fire ‘University Challenge’ quiz.
But before the quiz next year, each team must raise £400 for the charity, by any means they like, to enter the contest.
Rev Father Power, of Harrow School, which will host the competition next year, said: “I have been involved in the work of Mind for some time and this competition will be a huge benefit to the pupils.
“Not only will it raise money for charity but it will be a great opportunity for the pupils to learn about mental health.
“There is also the chance for them to be creative with how they raise the money. I think all the pupils are looking forward to the competition as a whole.”
The six schools taking part are Hatch End High School, Bentley Wood High School, Harrow School, Sacred Heart, John Lyon School and North London Collegiate School.
Representatives from each visited Harrow School, where the grand quiz will take place, to meet at the official launch of the competition.
Srushti Shah, 13, from Hatch End High School, said: “When we heard about the competition we were quite excited because we thought it would be a great competition and it was a chance to raise money for a good cause."
Cake sales, staff vs pupils quizzes and sponsored bike rides are just some of the fundraising ideas mentioned to the Harrow Times at the launch.
Pupils already have their eye on the prestigious prize from the quiz, which will take place next year, but there will also be awards for the most money raised by a team and for the most interesting fundraising method.
