Flood alert in place on River Darent in Dartford
A FLOOD alert is in place in the Dartford area following yesterday’s heavy rainfall.
The Environment Agency is warning of flooding close to the River Darent from Westerham to Dartford.
Areas particularly at risk include South Darenth, Hawley and Eynsford.
A spokesman said: “A period of prolonged rainfall yesterday and overnight has caused river levels in the River Darent to rise and remain high.
“With no further rain forecast for today we expect river levels to remain high before falling later in the day.
We are currently expecting flooding of low lying lands, particularly in the areas around Otford, Eynsford and Hawley.
He added: “Flooding of properties is not anticipated, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
This is the first time a flood alert has been in place on the Darent since March.
