Fundraisers celebrate opening of new outdoor gym
Dedicated fundraisers have celebrated launching the borough’s first outdoor gym.
Epsom’s mayor, Councillor Colin Taylor, officially opened the facility, in Shadbolt Park, Epsom, for which funding was secured by the Friends of Shadbolt Park through Surrey County Council’s Community Improvements Fund.
The gym, which is free for the public to use, contains equipment for an outdoor workout including a free runner/cross trainer, push-up bars, body flexor/upper body trainer and sit-up bench/cycle trainer.
Each of the stations has instructions on how to use the machines safely and to the maximum benefit.
Coun Taylor congratulated members of the Friends for their endeavours in securing the funding.
He said: "Outdoor gyms are a great way for everyone to be able to participate in exercise and reap the rewards of improved physical and mental health.
"I understand that joggers in the park have already incorporated the gym in their exercise regimes."
