Young first time mothers can now receive extra help at home through a new scheme.
The Family Nurse Partnership will aid mothers throughout pregnancy and up until their babies reach two years old.
Available to all first-time mothers in the borough aged 20 and under at conception, trained family nurses will help young mums and their partners prepare for parenthood.
The family nurse can also help young mums plan for their future, whether finding a job or returning to education.
Kathy Soderquist, manager for universal children and young people services at Enfield Community Services, said: “We all know that having your first child can be a very challenging time, especially if you are young.
“At the Family Nurse Partnership team in Enfield, we will be there to provide advice and support to young parents in the borough so they can give their baby the best possible start in life.”
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This service offers reassurance to first time parents and will help them nurture their young children, giving parents and babies a good start.
“It is a great idea and a wonderful investment in our future generations.”
The partnership has been set up by Community services at Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust in conjunction with Enfield Borough Council and will begin taking referrals at the beginning of November.
