Olympic champion James DeGale to fight at Bluewater as he eyes up winner of Froch v Groves
2:17pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
OLYMPIC boxing champion and WBC Silver super middleweight champion James DeGale MBE will step back into the ring at Bluewater next month.
The fighter, who won gold in Beijing, returns to the centre’s Glow venue where he won in June, to headline an all star line-up on November 16, which will be broadcast live on Channel 5.
DeGale, whose opponent is yet to be announced, said: “I can’t wait to get in there and put on the kind of display where people take note and see that I'm ready and willing to fight the best.
"I'll put on a great performance for the fans.”
He added: “Bluewater always has a real intensity about it and a real intimate feel, which is something that the boxing fraternity and us as fighters love.
“I just can't wait to get in there and give a huge, devastating performance that takes the atmosphere to another level.”
The fight has come at a great time with the super middleweight division heating up as Carl Froch prepares to face-off with George Groves.
DeGale said: “You'd have to say Andre Ward is number one and then you'd probably have to say it's Carl Froch, but when you look at the list of other fighters in the division, the likes of: Mikkel Kessler, Thomas Oosthuizen, Lucian Buté, George Groves, I think it's very difficult to say who number three is, who number four is.
“I look at the Froch vs Groves fight and I know that in the next six months it's likely that I'll fight the winner of that one, so it really is exciting times.”
