AN AUDI A6 roared into Bexley at 110mph with police on its tail before smashing into a red London bus.

Eyewitnesses say up to eight police cars, as well as the Met Police helicopter, were involved in the pursuit that entered Bexley at 9.30pm yesterday evening.

The Kent Police chase started at around 9pm when a silver Audi A6 was taken without consent from an address in Hoo, Medway.

It failed to stop when flagged down by officers on the London-bound A2 where it was chased at speeds of up to 110mph before leaving at the Danson Interchange.

The Audi then hit another vehicle before colliding with a 132 route red London bus in Blendon Road, Blackfen, less than a mile from the A2.

Kent Police say two people suffered minor injuries following the smash.

The driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot.

John Drew, 76, was at home in Blendon Road when the crash happened about 50 yards from his front door and helped direct traffic as the road was blocked.

The retired teacher told News Shopper: "The road was just full of police cars with lights flashing ever so bright you could hardly see.

"They were all empty, some in the middle of the road with lights flashing and not a soul about.

"They had obviously ran after those blokes who scarpered after they hit the bus.

"We’ve lived here 50 years and never had so much excitement."

A 21-year-old man from Gravesend was arrested on the A2 near Blackfen and a 28-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on Woodside Lane.

They were both arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, drink driving and dangerous driving.

Both remain in custody this afternoon.

Transport for London’s director of buses Mike Weston said: "At around 21:30 a route 132 double deck bus, operated by London Central, was hit by a stolen car on Blendon Road in Bexley.

"Police were on the scene at the time and there were no reported injuries.

"The bus was later removed and the damage is in the process of being fully assessed.

"We will assist the police wherever possible with their enquiries."
