Former councillor for Mill Hill and Edgware Jane Ellison handed ministerial role in cabinet reshuffle
A former Barnet councillor has been handed a ministerial role in the latest cabinet reshuffle.
Jane Ellison was appointed public health minister as Prime Minister David Cameron and deputy Nick Clegg made changes among their junior ministers.
The Conservative MP for Battersea served as a councillor in Mill Hill between 1991 and 1994 and later as a representative for Hale ward in Edgware between 2006 and 2008 before stepping down to run for Parliament.
She was heavily involved in the Mill Hill Preservation Society and the Hendon Christian Housing Association and, in 1995 she co-founded the Mill Hill Music Festival.
The politician wrote on her Twitter feed: “Very honoured to be asked to serve in the Government as a Health Minister. Thanks to all who have sent kind messages.”
