Pub landlord wins £5,000 by sinking 60 foot putt
A pub landlord won £5,000 after landing a hole in one in a 60 foot charity putt challenge.
As the games lowest scorer Mr Dutson, who has played the gentlemen’s game for the last 20 years, was offered the chance to take a shot at a 60 foot putt and win £5,000.
Despite facing a distance the length of two double decker buses Mr Dutson, who has a handicap of 19, defied the odds to land an impressive hole in one. The pub landlord, originally from Adelaide in Australia, said: "The celebrations afterwards with all the guys were great.
"That’s what made it for me.
"We were just so excited.
"I was confident but with a 60 foot put there is a one in 1,000 chance of actually making it drop.
"When I went up I was trying to be relaxed as possible and take my time and just did the best I could.
"The whole day was great and we raised a lot for charity."
The charity event is believed to have raised £10,000 for the Lily Foundation which supports families coping with mitochondrial disease resulting in a lack of energy in vital organs causing them to function incorrectly.
The disease has no cure and very few effective treatments meaning that it can lead to an early death.
