Car thief from Kingsbury Green caught half an hour after pinching vehicle from West Hendon driveway
A bungling burglar who used socks for gloves was caught driving a stolen car just 30 minutes after taking it from a driveway in Hendon.
Gordon Bees, 26, was handed 24 months in prison for stealing the car, taking valuables inside the vehicle and driving while disqualified and with no insurance.
The thief, from Uphill Drive, Kingsbury Green, was spotted driving at speed in the Roe Green area by officers on patrol on September 23.
The car had been reported stolen from Hyde Crescent, West Hendon just 30 minutes previously.
Officers briefly lost the vehicle but found it parked a short distance away in Fairfields Crescent.
Bees was seen walking swiftly away from the car and was sweating profusely when he was stopped by the officers and arrested on suspicion of the theft.
The car keys were found in a nearby garden, as well as a pair of socks that Bees has used as gloves when he stole the vehicle.
Police later searched his home and found a distinctive lighter and clothes belonging to the owner of the car.
Bees pleaded guilty to all charges and he was sentenced at Hendon Magistrates’ Court just 24 hours after being caught.
DC Nigel Doyle from Barnet Police said: “This was an excellent piece of policing by the officers who spotted Bees.
“He is a prolific burglar and it should be a comfort to residents of Barnet and Wembley that he is safely behind bars for the foreseeable future.”
