Opera eye-opener at Normansfield Theatre, Teddington
A performance billed as an “antidote to serious opera” is on its way to Teddington.
Opera UK promise a night of fun and laughter for their latest production - a Night at the Operetta.
Operetta was developed in the middle of the 19th century and lasted until the development of the musical in the 1930s.
The genre includes melodies from composers including Lehar, Strauss, Offenbach, Ivor Novello and the ever popular Gilbert and Sullivan.
Opera UK was founded in 2005 and aims to take affordable productions to places previously starved of opera and give leading roles to upcoming singers.
As homage to the anniversary of the First World War in 2014 the group will add nostalgic songs from the war era to the program such as Keep the Home Fires Burning and We’ll gather lilacs.
Old favourites will also be performed.
A Night at the Operetta, at the Normansfield Theatre, Langdon Park, Teddington; Saturday, October 5; 7.30pm. Tickets £20.
