Community groups in Merton can apply for up to £10,000 of funding support until October 1.

Inspiring community groups could be awarded grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 by Merton Priory Homes to aid community-changing projects in the borough.

Among those who have benefited are young people affected by domestic violence, after St Marks Family Centre, Mitcham, was awarded £19,500 over two years.

Ian Petherbridge, from the centre, said Merton Priory Homes’ funding is "very encouraging" in making "small organisations like us" receive the help they need to fund projects.

Wayne Hainsworth, managing director of Merton Priory Homes, part of Circle Housing Group, said: "Funding is awarded directly to the many different initiatives improving life for people in Merton.

"We know about the hard work that so many charities and voluntary organisations do across the borough and this funding can really make a difference to people’s lives.

"We’re on target to have donated a total of £1m of funding to community-changing initiatives by 2015.

"Anyone on a mission to bring about a positive change to the borough should get in touch with Merton Priory Homes to discuss how our support could really help."

Merton Priory Homes has given £650,000 to more than 50 groups since setting up a community fund three years ago, benefitting about 15,000 people.
